Welcome to Fire and Rescue Retirees Peer Support Program. Support is available to all former employees regardless whether exit was for retirement, medical discharge or other reasons.
This is not a crisis service. If there is immediate risk contact Lifeline 13 11 14, Suicide Call Back Service 1300 659 467, Triple Zero (000) or other appropriate support service. Contact details can be found on GetĀ support page.
Retirees Peer Support team members are retired firefighters, volunteering their time to provide confidential support to members transitioning into retirement and members that have retired or exited Fire and Rescue NSW for any reason.
The program provides one on one support for individuals experiencing personal difficulties or mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anger, problem gambling and family breakdown to name a few.
Retiree Peer Support team members are not counsellors and do not make psychological assessments. They are very well informed on how to access support through General Practitioners, Chaplains, Psychologist and support organisations such as Beyond Blue and Blackdog.
RPST have great listening, communication and problem solving skills and are someone with whom you can discuss the steps to the correct support. All conversations are strictly confidential.
The Retiree Support Program is supported by:
- Fire and Rescue NSW
- Fire Brigades NSW Retirees Association
